About Jalasathi Program
The Jalasathi program, launched by the Government of Odisha in 2019, aims to achieve universal piped water coverage across the state. To bridge the gap in last-mile connectivity, women from self-help groups (SHGs) are engaged as 'Jalasathis' to ensure efficient service delivery through active community participation.
As Jalasathis, these SHG members take on critical roles such as collecting water user charges, facilitating new water connections, regularizing unauthorized connections, testing water quality, and identifying issues in service delivery at the grassroots level.
This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO) and the Public Health Engineering Organization (PHEO), fostering participatory governance in urban water supply management across Odisha.
About Jalasathi Knowledge Portal
The Jalasathi Knowledge Portal is a dedicated platform designed to support the training and capacity building of women working as Jalasathis in Odisha. These women are responsible for tasks such as collecting user charges for water and ensuring the provision of universal piped water supply under the Government of Odisha’s Jalasathi Program.
The portal provides resources, learning modules, and guidelines to help Jalasathis efficiently manage water supply systems, monitor service delivery, and engage with the community. It also serves as a knowledge-sharing hub, fostering collaboration and the exchange of best practices among Jalasathis. By empowering women and strengthening their role in the water supply network, the portal aims to enhance water service delivery and ensure equitable access to clean drinking water across urban areas in Odisha.
